How to Watch Netflix Online Movies with a PlayStation 3
- 1). Connect your PlayStation 3 (PS3) to your Internet connection. If possible, use a physical connection instead of WiFi. Netflix movies can be streamed over a wireless connection, but a wired connection ensures a strong connection. This is important because Netflix determines the video quality based on your bandwidth. A weak wireless signal will have lower bandwidth, resulting in lower video quality.
- 2). Log on to your PlayStation Network account. If you don't have an account, sign up for one first. Basic PlayStation Network accounts are free, or you can optionally sign up for a PlayStation Plus account for a subscription fee.
- 3). Download and install the latest firmware update for your PS3, if necessary. This can be done directly through your PS3's interface, or from a file saved to a USB stick.
- 4). Download the Netflix app. At the time of this writing, you can find it by going to the "What's New" item under the "PlayStation Network" section of your PS3's main menu. There is a link to the Netflix app that takes you to the PlayStation Store where you can download the application for free. In the future the application will likely be found directly in the PlayStation Store.
- 5). Start up the Netflix application after it is finished downloading. Follow the prompts until you are given an activation code.
- 6). Log into your Netflix account from your PC. Click on the "Your Account/Help" link. On the next page, find the link that says "Activate a Netflix Ready Device" and click on it. On the next page you'll be prompted to enter the activation code from the previous step.
- 7). Enter the activation code. Your PS3 should automatically connect to Netflix. You are now ready to use Netflix on your PS3.
- 1). Navigate around the menus and movie titles using the D-Pad or the left analog stick on your controller.
- 2). Select a movie by pushing the "X" button. This will display information about the movie, and give you the options of playing it, adding/removing it from your online queue, or rating it.
- 3). Press the circle button or left on the D-Pad or analog stick to return to the previous section.
- 4). Press the "Square" button to return to the main Netflix menu.
- 5). Search for movies to watch or add to your queue from the "Search" page by entering in the title of the movie. As you enter the title, a list of possible matches will be displayed. Titles that can be watched online will have a "Play" button symbol next to them. If the "Play" button symbol is not present, it means the movie is only available on DVD or Blu-Ray.
- 6). Press the "PS" button on your controller at any time and select "Quit" to quit the Netflix app. Press the "PS" button again to go back to what you were doing if you don't want to quit.
- 1). Press the "X" or "Start" button to pause or resume playback of the movie.
- 2). Press the "Square" or "Circle" button or up on the D-Pad or analog stick to stop the playback and go back to the movie's information page.
- 3). Press left or right on the D-Pad or analog stick to skip backward or forward slightly in the playback, respectively. A series of screenshots and a time bar will help you tell where you're at in the movie.
- 4). Press R2 or L2 when scene screenshots are displayed to fast-forward or fast-reverse, respectively. You can cycle through three different speed settings by pressing the button again.
- 5). Press "X" or "Start" to resume playback from the point you have selected. Press up on the D-Pad or analog stick to resume playback from your original position.
- 6). Press "Select" to activate a small heads-up display that shows the current/total playback time, the video quality, and audio information. Press it again to hide the display.
