    • 1). Become the problem solver in the relationship. Regardless of whether you're working, now is the chance to step in and let him know that together you two will find a solution and get on track, even if it's a different track. The last thing your husband needs when he's feeling down in the dumps is you hovering over him asking what it is that he's going to do.

    • 2). Give him a few days to get over the blow. Sure, it might be nice if he were looking for jobs immediately, but the reality is that he needs at least a day or two to mourn the job loss in preparation to get back out there. You don't want him yelling during an interview about how underappreciated he was at the old place. Pamper him with a delicious dinner, a sensual massage and a chance to vent for a few hours before encouraging him to begin looking for a job.

    • 3). Look for solutions within your networks. Immediately get on the horn and find ways for him to get into a new job. Ask your family and friends if they know of companies that are hiring. Get his resume polished up so he can hit the ground running.

    • 4). Pick up the slack in whatever ways you can. Hope that the transition between jobs won't be a lengthy one and use the time to do more around the house and possibly at your job. See if you can put in a few extra hours or work on a bonus project. Or, ask a friend to help carpool the kids to and from school. Readjust your household budget so that you have an extensive savings plan in place in the event that there's a longer period of unemployment than you expected.

    • 5). Remind him frequently why you love him and show him how much you support him. At the beginning and end of every day, allow him to talk about what's on his mind, or allow him to say nothing at all. Make things easier for him while he's out looking for new work. Reassure him that you don't think any less of him because of the situation.
