How to Cut Cedar Shingles With a Miter Saw
- 1). Measure the cedar shingle, and make a mark with a pencil to indicate the spot you plan to cut. Draw a line along the shingle to make cutting it easier.
- 2). Set the angle on your miter saw to accommodate the cedar shingle. Depending on the model of your miter saw, you typically adjust the angle by lifting a lever and sliding the fence to the desired spot. If you're making square cuts on the shingles, for example, set the angle perpendicular to the saw's fence.
- 3). Place the cedar shingle on the cutting table of the saw, and press the shingle firmly against the fence. Position the shingle so the pencil mark is in the cutting path of the saw blade and lower the blade, before turning on the saw, to ensure that the blade meets the pencil mark.
- 4). Press the saw's "Power" button, and steadily pull the handle to lower the blade until it cuts through the cedar shingle. Pull the handle toward you to continue cutting along the pencil line. When finished, press the "Power" button again to turn off the saw.
