How to Repair Vinyl Pool Liners
- 1). Drain the pool. It is best not to drain the pool completely because the liner is being held in place by the pool water, but you may need to drain the entire pool because of the risk of electric shock when using the hair dryer or vacuum cleaner.
- 2). Readjust the liner against the pool wall using the vacuum cleaner and long hose. Because the liner will begin shifting once the pool is drained, it will lift from the wall, causing shifting and bubbling between the liner and the wall. Gently use the hose suction so you are careful not to rip the liner any further.
- 3). Heat the liner and stretch it back into place. Use the hair dryer to heat the liner in small sections. Pull the vinyl to stretch it back out so it covers its original surface area. It is best to do this only if the pool is completely drained to avoid risk of electric shock. Allow the liner to settle before adding the vinyl patch sealant.
- 4). Put on the rubber gloves, and apply the sealant to the hole. A clear vinyl sealant is easiest to use because it is liquid, but it is thick enough to fill the liner hole without dripping. Be sure not to get any sealant on the cement underneath the liner; otherwise, the liner will weld to the cement base.
- 5). Refill the pool, pulling the liner into place gently as the water allows it to move around the wall.
