What you MUST do online and offline to build a network marketing business.

The money is in the list

Ask any old or new school network marketer and they will resound equally. 90% of network marketing is prospecting/recruiting and 100% of prospecting/recruiting is properly building and working your list.

Why you MUST implement both online and offline list building.

The surprising thing is that building a list online and off is essentially the same process. With the proper systems and techniques, neither way is really better or easier, but some people may be more apt toward one or the other, so if you are not personally doing and teaching both you are loosing BIG money.

Traditional old school network marketers spend their time working through contacts of contacts of contacts. In the process they build and develop trust and influence with a list of people in their target market, most of which are usually local.

If done right this is amazingly effective. I say this from experience, not theory.

The goal is the same online, to develop a list of people that you have trust and influence with. There is so much bad information on this topic circulated by people that have NEVER been successful in either style of network marketing that I get sick to my stomach.

I can't imagine what a new network marketer has to wade through to get some real advice on how to succeed with network marketing online. Actually I can because I've had to do it, but every day the net becomes more crowded as a few more clueless posers get all dressed up for Halloween and disguise themselves as gurus.

Before ever purchasing a product by some acclaimed guru, be sure to research them.

There is negative news on everybody, even the sincere and true gurus; you will have to see through the baseless bashing. What company have they actually been successful with? Are they still active in network marketing? You may have to go through 3 or 4 pages of Google results to get to the meat. If you can't find any meat, there probably is none, move on.

The true gurus tend to be transparent, they don't just hide behind a website, you will find more than just a vague bio, more than just a template MLM success story.

OK, a few final words on MLM list building.

The term list building is actually a bit deceiving; it seems to lend the idea that building a list is a mindless process similar to following a recipe to make a cake. In reality we should be talking about list attracting.

While the there is a certain instruction set you must follow, the key ingredient to attraction is the object that is doing the attracting - YOU!

Why would prospects be attracted to you? The good networkers don't sell their products, services or companies. They sell themselves. What are you selling?
