How to Open an Above Ground Sand Pool Filter
- 1). Disconnect the power supply to the pool pump by unplugging the electrical cord or switching the circuit breaker off.
- 2). Close the intake valve between the pool skimmer and pool pump. Open the waste line on the pool filter. Depending on the model of sand filter, it may be referred to as the discharge valve. Consult your owner's manual for exact name and location as it varies with model. To avoid any damage to the filtration system, never open the top of the filter while it is full of water.
- 3). Use a wrench to loosen the flange clamp located on the top of the sand filter. This may require a lot of force if you do not open your filter top routinely. Once loosened, remove the filter control valve.
- 4). Remove the top of the filter by lifting the unit off the filter body. Complete any maintenance that is required.
