How to Install Boomerang Swing Arm Covers on a Roadstar
- 1). Position the motorcycle on a flat, level surface where you can access both the right and left side unobstructed. If you have saddlebags installed on the Road Star, remove them so that you have sufficient clearance to work.
- 2). Loosen the axle adjustment bolt with the adjustable wrench, and install the screw bracket for the Boomerang cover on each side of the motorcycle. The bracket slides under the axle adjustment bolt head. This part can be tightened completely once the covers are in place. This will allow you to adjust them as necessary to make them fit properly.
- 3). Wipe off the swing arm tubes with a clean rag to remove any dirt or debris that may have gathered on the surface. This will allow the adhesive to hold tighter to the frame without becoming loose over time.
- 4). Snap each of the swing arm tube covers into place on the rear axle cover that mounts to the screw bracket. On the back of each of the swing arm tube covers is a piece of double-sided tape. Scratch this tape gently with your fingernail to activate the adhesive. Remove the protective backing from the tape. There is a securing bracket on the back side of the cover. Remove this bracket for the time being.
- 5). Position the swing arm covers over the Road Star's left and right side swing arms, and align the screw bracket with the screw holes in the back side of the rear axle covers. When in place, press the swing arm tube covers onto the swing arm tubes. When on the right side of the motorcycle, you may find it helpful to loosen the exhaust retaining nut with the adjustable wrench. This is not, however, strictly necessary.
- 6). Install the securing bracket that was previously removed from the back side of the cover onto the rear axle cover, and then screw the rear axle cover into the mounting bracket attached to the axle adjuster nut. Tighten all your fittings on both sides of the motorcycle to make certain that everything fits properly before riding the Road Star.
