Praying to Find a Job

While job searching takes a lot of hard work hitting the pavement, going on line and searching for what’s open, and building up your skills, there is one component of the job search that many people don’t think about - praying to find a job.  God has a way of providing for us when we need something, and He can be helpful in the process.  He can work all kinds of miracles, and His intervention tends to keep us on His path.

He knows what you need, where you need to be, and how He wants to use you.  Here is a simple prayer to find a job that may be helpful to get you started:

Lord, thank you for all You do in my life.  I know I am blessed to have You watching over me and providing for me.  I am asking You once again for Your guidance and direction in another area of my life.  You have never failed to push me in the right direction when I’ve needed that type of push, and I need some direction and help now.

Right now, Lord, I am looking for a job.  I ask that You guide my path so I look for the right  types of jobs.  I want to be in the place You want me, where You can use me the most.  I want to provide for those You wish me to provide for.  I want to be what You desire most for me in this moment of my life.

I know a lot of employers are looking at me like I am young and inexperienced, but I ask that You open their hearts and eyes to the things I can bring to their place of business.  I ask that You help them see me for what I am rather than just a young person.  I ask that You help soften their heart toward the prejudices toward hiring young people.

I also ask, Lord, that You help me present to them the best I can be.  I know I don’t go in with a long resume of skills, but I hope that You can help me show them my potential.  Help me answer their questions like the responsible young person I am.  Lord, provide me the words I need to respond in the interview in a manner that honors You.

And Lord, please help me know when something isn’t right.  I know that there are a lot of employers out there looking for people to just do a job.  However, I want something that won’t compromise my values - Your values.  I don’t just want a job for the paycheck, but I also want to make sure it is a job where I won’t have to compromise myself.

Still, Lord, I do ask Your help in finding me a job that provides enough financially for the things I need to do.  I know the importance of tithing, and I want to give back to the church, but You know I’m also getting this job to pay for the things I need to pay for.  Please help me find a job that provides what I need.

And finally, Lord, when I do find a job, please help me be the best employee I can be.  Even if it is working what others see as something small, let me be big at it.  Let me walk in the door each day wanting to be there and being positive about it.  I ask that You give me a heart for the work I am doing.

Thank you, Lord.  In your holy name I pray, amen.
