After long time of wakefulness, T-cells are not reproduced normally and immune system gets weaker. Our body can not fight bacterias and viruses with weakened immune system. So, soon or later lack of sleep will lead to some serious health problems.

Lack of sleeping can be a reason of very common problem in modern world - obesity. Many studies showed that people who sleep less than 6 hours are obese. The reason of this is that sleep deprivation affects hormones of metabolism the same way as it affects immune system. When metabolism is not working, deprived person gains weight easily. Also, another reason can be fatigue. During the chronic tiredness body gets very inactive so calories are not burned and person gains weight. But the major reason of obesity in deprived people is malfunction of metabolism.

Sleep deprivation can cause high blood pressure. Sleep keeps nervous system healthy and helps blood regulate stress hormones. Unregulated stress hormones can cause high blood pressure. It also decreases the body's ability to regulate blood-sugar level and increases risk of diabetes.
