How to Make a Camera Stabilizer
- 1). Attach the T-joint to one end of your first pipe length and an end cap on the other. You may want to use a wrench and the vise to tighten the pieces completely.
- 2). Drill the two remaining end caps. Thouroughly tighten them in the vise, don protective eyewear and drill slowly. Oil the bit with some vegetable oil from the kitchen, and center it in the cap as well as you can. Always clean up the resulting metal shards with a broom or brush, not your hands. They are sharp little pieces of metal, after all.
- 3). Assemble the camera mount by pushing a bolt and lock washer into the hole in the end cap. The bolt goes in the opening and out the drilled hole in the cap. Affix another lock washer and nut and tighten.
- 4). Dent the center of your first flange washer by placing it over the hole in your counter weight and tapping the head of a bolt to the washer hole using a hammer. This will help broaden the contact with the camera and help to smooth operation. Screw the wing nut onto your mounting bolt in the end cap, wings down, then add the flange washer.
- 5). Prepare the counter weight assembly by pushing your last bolt through a flange washer then through the center hole in the weight. Add the last flange washer to the protruding bolt, then the end cap, cap side down, the lock washer and nut. Tighten the assembly until there is no unwanted movement.
- 6). Screw the remaining two pipe lengths into the tee and attach the counter weight assembly to one open end and the camera mount to the other. Tighten thoroughly, but don't over tighten as you may want to switch out these components for different handling options.
