Federal Trade Commission- What Good are They?

We all heard about the Do Not Call List and everyone said; "All right no more calls at dinner time" but now the calls are back thanks to loop holes in the law, which like all laws, rules and regulations of the Federal Trade Commission favor the few (corporations) at the expense of the many (people).
And what about SPAM? Sure well we all know SPAM increased during the CAN SPAM Act enforcement by the FTC didn't it? You bet it did, another failure of the agency, an agency in my professional reality based observations and opinion.
Of course it is budget time and the FTC has asked for 223-million tax payer's dollars for FY 2007.
Stating in a recent report to Congress that their mission is very important indeed; FTC Mission: "The FTC is the only federal agency with jurisdiction to enhance consumer welfare and protect competition in broad sectors of the economy.
It enforces the laws that prohibit business practices that are anticompetitive, deceptive, or unfair to consumers, and seeks to do so without impeding legitimate business activity.
The FTC also promotes informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process.
The agency s work is critical in protecting and strengthening free and open markets in both the United States and the world.
" So the FTC thinks it is the only agency then with jurisdiction to "enhance consumer welfare" well since when is "enhance" a job of the government? And I beg to differ with their abilities to "protect competition in broad sectors of the economy" as history has shown us that the FTC ought to be called the "Forget The Consumer" and trample the competition.
The only thing in my opinion that the FTC is good for is for attacking your competition.
In fact if you want to attack your competition, simply pay a lobbyist to call on a Congressman to put in a phone call to the FTC to start an investigation on your competitor.
The FTC wants next year's budget money and will have to appease the Congressman and therefore attack your competition.
Seriously I do not believe that the FTC serves any other real purpose in our civilization.
I believe they are completely full of used food.
Consider this in 2006.
