How to Format Cells in Office Excel

    • 1). Click the "Start" button in Windows. Scroll to Microsoft Excel. Open the program and click on the cell that you want to start working on.

    • 2). Type in information when it's time to format. Right-click the cell, scroll down and choose "Format cells."

    • 3). Choose a tab for the appropriate format. For example, if you want to format the color, click on "Patterns" and click on the color for the background of the cell.

    • 4). Change how numbers are seen in the cell. Click on the "Number" tab and scroll to the format you want to change to. If you want the numbers to be in currency form, click on "Currency." Scientific notation style would be formatted by choosing "Scientific."

    • 5). Align text in the cell differently. Click on the "Alignment" tab to adjust the text horizontally or vertically. Also, text can be indented, shrunk or wrapped in this window.
