DIY: Macrame Beverage Holders
- 1). Measure around the top edge (circumference) of the sample beverage container.
- 2). Multiply the measurement from Step 1 by eight to get the number of cords needed for this project. Add more cords, if necessary, to achieve a multiple of four.
- 3). Measure the height of the beverage container and multiply by eight to determine how long the cords from Step 2 should be.
- 4). Use the measurements from Steps 1 through 3 to cut the working cords of the project.
- 5). Cut two additional holding cords the same length as the others. Cut a third holding cord to 25 inches in length.
- 1). Use T-pins to attach the two equal-length holding cords horizontally to the push-pin board. Make sure they are taut.
- 2). Use larks head knots to attach half of the working cords to the holding cords in Step 1.
- 3). Remove the cords from the board and form a circle around the top of the beverage container, ideally within a groove or under a lip. Secure the holding cords tightly with a square knot.
- 1). Begin tying alternating rows of square knots. Odd-numbered rows will use all of the cords in groups of four, and even-numbered rows will use the two cords lying next to each other from the knots in the previous row.
- 2). Continue the alternating square knot pattern for the length of the container. If the container widens, add additional cords in groups of four.
- 3). Add additional cord if necessary. Fold and center each new cord under an existing cord and tie a square knot using the two strands of new cord.
- 1). When you reach the bottom edge, drop four cords and continue the alternating square knots pattern. Keep the dropped cords to the inside.
- 2). Repeat Step 1 two more times to reduce the number of cords as the pattern curves under the bottom of the container.
- 3). Attach all of the cords to the unused 25-inch holding cord with tight square knots.
- 4). Trim the excess cord ends and apply glue to prevent fraying or unraveling.
