In this article I am going to explain vertical jump training programs to slam dunk.
I am going to focus on the main components that your vertical jump program should be built around.
Before I get into the details let me tell you guys where I'm coming from.
In high school I had a strong desire to slam dunk and I trained for years until I finally reached that goal.
From my experience and from my observations, it wasn't the people that necessarily trained hard that saw results, it was more so the people that worked smart that succeeded.
Make sure you are consciously training specific muscles for specific reasons - make sure that your vertical jump program effectively encompasses all that has to do with vertical jump training.
Here is one such aspect: Power = strength x speed Your vertical is solely determined by the amount of power your body can exert.
Power is strength multiplied by speed.
Strength is the total amount of force that your body can exert off the floor and speed is how quick your body can exert that force.
They have a multiplicative relationship so its important that you work on both but especially focus on working on your weaknesses.
For example say that your natural ability for you strength is at around a 7 and your speed is at around 2.
You would see more results if you worked on your weakness (speed)...
Currently you're natural ability is this: Power (14) = Strength (7) x Speed (2) If you were to do more strength training: Power (16) = Strength (8) x Speed (2) If you were to do more speed training: Power (21) = Strength (7) x Speed (3) Important things to note: As you can see, you get the most results from training your weaknesses.
This all ties in with the earlier concept of working smart.
I saw people around me that were training aspects of their body that didn't need more training and they saw weak results because of that.
The smart ones trained their weaknesses and they saw a huge increase in their vertical.
What should you work on? Everyone's body type is different so everybody should have a unique plan.
