How an Email Address Gets in Your Address Book Without You Adding it
- The options for automatically saving a new contact addresses varies by the service provider. Google, AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo! mail providers all offer a form of autocompletion cache features. When you receive or send an email to a new contact the address is typically saved. Typically, the virtual cache memory of your provider allows you to store up to 1,000 new contacts in this manner.
- Typically you must first select the the automatic function when setting up your mailbox. Some email providers may have the function automatically turned on, requiring you to deselect the feature if you prefer not to have new contact automatically saved.
- Routinely only the address, not the name of the account holder, is saved. If you begin typing in some of the letters in the address all email contacts with similar letters will pop up in your recipient drop-down menu. You can either complete the entire email address or click on the appropriate address to send or save the new contact.
