    • For many pool owners, keeping the water clean and the liner spotless can be a hassle, especially for large in-ground pool. Thus, many companies have responded by releasing pool filters that clean and scrub automatically. The Polaris 180 is one such cleaner that "sweeps, scrubs, and vacuums all pool surfaces," according to the Polaris website. It was still available for purchase in 2010.

    Functions

    • Among the tasks that the Polaris 180 performs, the device can vacuum, sweep and scrub all surfaces in any size in-ground pool in three hours or less. It is also capable of picking up large debris from the bottom, including pebbles and leaves, storing this and other debris separately from the pool's regular filter. This may help prolong the life of the pool's filtration system.

    Components

    • A new Polaris 180 should come with a number of components required for operation. This includes an all-purpose bag to trap debris, a head float, a sweep hose with scrubber, the cleaner body itself, a feed hose with floats, a back-up valve, a quick-disconnect with universal wall fitting and two restrictor disks.

    Operation

    • Polaris recommends that the 180 be installed by a pool professional. To protect the pool's regular pump and filter, the 180 operates using a separate booster pool pump. The device must be connected to this booster pump via the universal wall fitting. Also, the Polaris 180's hose must be within six inches, longer or shorter, of the farthest point from the pump. The hose may be cut if too long and extension hoses may be purchased if it is too short. Finally, the cleaner's single wheel side tire runs between 28 and 32 revolutions per minute when working effectively.
