Certainly there are other places that I would rather be
And I'm not sure that I could ever emulate the deeds of Jonah
Imagine disregarding the ominous unrelenting voice of God
But as I am told that is exactly what happened
On one portentous day the supreme master of the universe
informed him that it would be his responsibility
to chastise the people for their wicked ways
But for some unspecified reason Jonah did not respond in kind
In fact, against the will of God he swam in the other direction

And while there has never been a definitive explanation
to describe the actions of the infamous infidel
there is good reason to speculate about the cause of his action

Perhaps Jonah was only a rebellious one,
or he may have even feared
the painful retaliatory actions of the devil's sheep
And quite frankly, it is at least theoretically possible
that he disagreed with the Almighty's sense of religion
and the underlying premise that was inherent
in his personal point of view

In any event,
it is quite possible that you have heard
at least some of the rest of this prophetic tale
As the story goes
it is said that God became incredibly perturbed
at the contumacious actions of Jonah this insolent guy
Initially Jonah was exhumed and catapulted toward the beach
where he suffered from the consequences of three days and three nights
in a circumstance that was less than comfortable at the very least
To remedy the situation the merciful Lord provided an invigorating plant
that was able to protect the recovering sailor
from the tremendous warmth and power of the sun
And eventually God was able to accept the faults of the insubordinate one
But in no way would he forget
As soon as Jonah was able to recover his strength and regain his capabilities
he was sent back to the city of Nineveh to castigate the sinners
And on this occasion everything went as planned
A miraculous transformation occurred as the people did what was proper
to atone for all that they had done wrong

As in the case of Jonah the Lord disseminated a medicinal plant
to provide comfort to the people
Ironically however Jonah became confused by the great mercy
of the Lord
It was only afterward that he began to understand the wisdom
of the omnipotent ruler of the universe
It became understood that as Jonah was spared in light of his actions,
so too were the insightful followers who became aware of the divinity
within this irrevocable message
