Tinnitus - Symptoms & Causes
Tinnitus - The symptoms:
Ringing ears is probably the most common of the symptoms of Tinnitus, however the noise in the ear drum that Tinnitus generates can be vary varied. In fact not only can the noise be different for each individual, it also differs widely in volume. There are many people who struggle to hold a conversation, because of the noise in their ears.
Tinnitus often takes the effect of an electrical motor humming away in the background, usually not really noticed until all is quiet around you. I have often had this sensation and thought it was the refrigerator motor ! Â Sometimes it can however sound like a Jet engine! This is a severe case and is one that can drive the victim almost crazy, as it completely drowns out any other noise or conversation.
So if you are suffering from a constant background noise in your head, and there is no noise making equipment around you, then the chances are that you are suffering from some form of Tinnitus. Don't panic however – it is not the end of the world, and there are things you can do about it.
Causes of Ringing ears:
The causes of ringing ears that usually mean a Tinnitus treatment is needed, can be many things, the most common however is simply background noise. Most of us have had the experience of leaving a noisy nightclub or party or even a football match, to discover that our ears are making a ringing noise. This is a common condition and is usually nothing to worry about, although if we submit ourselves to these conditions on a regular basis, it can become more prevalent to the extent that we can be stuck with it.
Work related Tinnitus:
People in noisy jobs are particularly prone to the symptoms of Tinnitus, especially anyone using noisy electrical equipment such as electric drills. The high pitched whine of a drill, is often exactly like the sound that many suffer from. Vibrating plates used in the building trade are particular noisy and can lead to Tinnitus problems.
Noisy factories can also leave individuals needing Tinnitus treatment, especially if they have not worn ear protectors. Always remember, prevention is better than the cure ! Ear protectors should always be worn in any noisy environment, if you want to avoid long-term problems with your hearing.
Tinnitus treatment:
Apart from the practical things that can be done to treat Tinnitus, such as wearing ear protectors in any noisy situation (even in a noisy party ear plugs can be used without it being obvious), there are medicines that can be purchased over-the-counter at the local store.
There are also a growing number of people opting for the ‘natural medicine' route, and having great success with such holistic treatments as ‘ Tinnitus Miracle' , a completely natural way to treat Tinnitus that evaluates your whole lifestyle and offers a Tinnitus solution that many have found to be the answer to their Tinnitus problem

- High blood pressure is also a possible cause of ringing ears as the subject can hear it coursing through the ear cavity.
- Some medication such as Quinine can often cause Tinnitus. This usually leaves when the medication period is over.
- Stress is another possible cause of ringing in the ears, as the higher blood pressure causes the noise in the ear drum.
- Ear wax is probably one of the most common causes of noisy ears, and is generally sorted out by syringing the ears with a solution to soften the wax and clean out the ear cavity. However it should also be noted that ear infection can be the cause of wax in the ears, so this has to be investigated.
