How to Replace a Fuel Line in a Featherlite Weed Eater

    • 1). Pour any remaining fuel into a container approved for fuel. Start the Featherlite and let it run until the engine dies.

    • 2). Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the air filter cover, which is located next to the primer bulb. Remove the air filter from the engine and wash it in warm, soapy water.

    • 3). Locate the carburetor, which is behind the air filter and next to the primer bulb. Use the needle-nosed pliers to disconnect the top fuel line that's connected to the carburetor. If you also need to replace the primer bulb and the bottom, return fuel line, disconnect the bottom line as well. Unscrew the primer bulb's four attaching screws.

    • 4). Take off the gas cap. Make sure the check valve isn't clogged or damaged. This valve allows pressurized gas to escape, and dirt or grass clippings can get trapped in this hole. If your Featherlite uses a fuel filter attached to the gas cap, replace both the filter and gas cap.

    • 5). Reach into the fuel tank and grab the fuel filter (if it's attached to the fuel line) and fuel line with the needle-nosed pliers. Pull these out through the gas tank and throw them away.

    • 6). Cut off about seven inches of new fuel line. Taper one end to a 45-degree angle and slick up the outside with a little oil, which will make pushing it through the tank easier.

    • 7). Stick the metal wire into the new fuel line. Bend the wire's top half to make a small handle. Insert the wire and fuel line into the gas tank and push them through the hole at the bottom of the gas tank.

    • 8). Continue pushing the wire and line through until you can see the line poke out near the carburetor. Pull the fuel line towards the carburetor, but don't hook it up yet.

    • 9). Cut off any excess fuel line still remaining in the tank. To make sure your trimmer will still run if tilted or tipped over, leave about two inches of fuel line inside the tank.

    • 10

Install the fuel filter by inserting the nozzle into the fuel line. Lay the filter and fuel line down inside gas the tank.

    • 11

Use the needle-nosed pliers to reattach the fuel line to the carburetor. If you're also replacing the primer bulb and return fuel line, follow the same steps, except push the wire and line through the primer bulb's hole instead of the gas tank.
