Woman of substance
I have heard of some wonderful women who have inspired me a lot. I have learned a lot from their life...These women are common people with deep personalities and a lot of will power. You must have only seldom heard of women praising women which is truly unimaginable in this self centered egoistic world..
To me, a woman of substance is a woman whose life means something, who's gone through adversity and even if she didn't "win" comes out on the other end bold and stronger, confident, determined and smarter; a woman who supports others and/or out-and-out leads -- despite the cost. A woman who uses and sacrifices her life. . .she isn't a spectator. She's part of the solution, albeit only for her own small world of family and friends. She's not doing this for fame or money but for the common people..She finds happiness in what she does and are never afraid of the risks involved
The first few people who come to my mind are Mother Teresa, Lady Diana, Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Kiran Bedi and ofcourse now I actually chose this topic to talk about Ms.Anuradha Koirala: Maiti Nepal's founder, director and guiding force. Ms. Anuradha Koirala is the Founder and Executive Director of Maiti Nepal. Born in Nepal and former English teacher, Ms. Koirala started Maiti Nepal in a small house in Kathmandu with her own savings.
Today she is a widely recognized activist and lecturer who has dedicated her life to combating the sexual exploitation of women and children. Her accomplishments have been recognized through numerous awards. Her work is often dangerous and requires great personal sacrifice. The criminal elements that "deliver" young girls are a ruthless enemy and have political connections at the highest levels in India and Nepal. Maiti Nepal's main office in Kathmandu has been destroyed twice and Maiti workers must travel with a bodyguard when overseeing rescue missions in India. Her commitment has been an inspiration to her largely volunteer staff. Most of the workers are rescued girls and young women who are healthy enough to work. "They need little incentive from me," states Ms Koirala. "They are working to help their sisters and they know the horror of the victims." She adds, "Society rejects me and my girls, but they are the most important thing in my life."

Below you will are able to watch this heart-wrenching documentary which provides a glimpse into the corruption and evil behind the curtain of the global sex industry, a world seldom seen by outsiders. But it is also a reminder that of the over one million women and girls who are sold, transported and forced into sexual slavery each year, 50,000 are in the United States. THE DAY MY GOD DIED exposes crimes that not only occur far away, but also far closer to home than we may have imagined.
The child sex trade is a highly organized syndicate that rivals the drug trade in profitability. The industry has formed a pipeline, which starts in the villages of Nepal and feeds a continuous supply of girls to the urban brothels. Recruiters capture them, smugglers transport them, brothel owners enslave them, corrupt police betray them and men rape and infect them. Every person in the chain profits except for the girls, who pay the price with their lives: 80 percent become infected with HIV.

Now the Internet has been the latest media for promoting the global trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children. This global communication network is being used to promote and engage in the buying and selling of women and children. The trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation is accompanied by potentially lifelong and/or life-threatening health consequences. It prevents victims from attaining the highest possible level of physical, mental and social well being.
So with these few women around the world would not be a better place to live in..I think all of us must strongly stick together..I mean the whole world should take the initiative to abolish such acts with the help of law and government and the support the cause of these women who have shown such bravery to fight against such acts...So lets pray that more and more women activists come up and sooner or later strict actions will be taken against sexual exploitation of women and children..
