How to Obtain an RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check
- 1). Obtain a full set of fingerprints from the person whose criminal record history you want to check. If your subject is in Canada, the fingerprints must be taken using form C-216C at a local police station. This can also be done by a private accredited fingerprinting agency. If the subject is outside of Canada, the fingerprints must be taken by a law enforcement agency that contains both rolled and flat impressions of all fingers using black ink. Also included with the prints should be the subject's full name, date of birth, and sex, along with the name and address of the law enforcement agency and the signature of the person who took the prints.
- 2). Prepare a letter of consent that authorizes the RCMP to release the subject's criminal record information to you. Otherwise, the RCMP is prohibited by law from providing the information to anyone but the subject. In order to be effective, the letter must include a sentence that states the subject has been informed that a refusal to give consent for release of the information will not negatively affect the processing of the request by the RCMP. The consent letter must be signed and the original sent by mail to the RCMP. A photocopied, scanned, or faxed consent letter will not be valid for use by the RCMP.
- 3). Submit the fingerprints, consent document, and the processing fee of $25 Canadian currency or the U.S. equivalent (by certified check or money order made payable to the "Receiver General for Canada") to the RCMP.
