• To operate a data center in any city, a county/city license is first required. This is the overall business license that will permit you to legally run the data center within that jurisdiction. Building And Zoning Licenses

• Constructing a building for a data center in any state requires one to have a building permit, which can be obtained by your designer or a contractor on your behalf. If you are leasing, buying out the building or planning to remodel it, you will require a zoning permit for this. Your local planning agency or the state's Office of Zoning has the responsibility of ensuring that the existing building is compliant.
  
  

Environmental Permits

• Extensive power, cooling and energy requirements characterize data centers. Some states have legislation requiring that data centers implement energy efficiency and sustainability strategies. • Your data center needs to have an Employment Identification Number (EIN), which is also known as the Federal Tax I.D. This will allow you to identify your business in government forms and official documents, and it will facilitate the process of paying taxes. Applications for the EIN are made via the International Revenue Service Website.
