Nato Finally Criticizes Pakistan

It looks like someone on NATO finally gathered together enough cahunas to criticize the Pakistanis for their flagrant and continued help to the terrorist organizations which operate from within its borders. There is absolutely too much terrorist activity being conducted from across their border for them to not have an active hand in it. Have you noticed the high number of high ranking al-Qaeda officials have been taken out by US drones which were operating on the Pakistani side of the border?

Top officers of the NATO-led force in Afghanistan say Pakistan needs to do more to rein in militants who are based on its territory but operate in Afghanistan. There are circumstances where the Pakistanis have fought terrorists on their side of the border but for the most part it was done because there was a Pakistani interest in doing so. Most times it was done because militants had attacked targets which were aligned with the Pakistani government or the government itself. They are notoriously slow to respond when we need them to. The US and NATO has asked for assistance in pursuing fleeing terrorists many times which have been allowed to escape because of Pakistani inaction.

The Pakistanis obviously dont understand the ramifications of their inaction on the world community. It is important that we be able to put the war on terror at rest. I personally am a firm believer that if it werent for the fact that the Pakistanis have allowed terrorists to use its territory so freely our forces fighting over there would be in much better shape. The terrorists are allowed to regroup after they have fought with US and NATO troops. If the US and NATO are allowed to pursue them they would be able to continue to fight them and to finish them off.

The Pakistanis are joined to the hip with the Haqqani network which they use to do their dirty work. They have a relationship which goes back quite a ways and action is louder then words. The Haqqanis have assisted the ISI which is the Pakistani Intelligence Agency many times in the past in operations against the Afghan government. I believe that this is part of the reason that the Pakistanis have been so slow to assist when it comes to matters of assisting in the efforts to help the Afghans because they really want to control that country also.

Last month, just before retiring, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen - the highest commander of the U.S. military - called the Haqqani network a veritable arm of Pakistans military intelligence agency, the ISI.

Mullen's remarks galvanized anti-American sentiment here in Pakistan and drew sharp reactions from an all-parties conference convened by the Pakistani president. The admiral's allegations also fueled U.S. lawmakers' skepticism about the future of American aid to Pakistan.

The US and Pakistan have worked together on some issues but it has only been a marriage of convenience. The Pakistanis use whatever they can and have been notoriously slow in doing their part of the bargain. Military Ring Express
