How to Make a Toothbrush

    • 1). Roll your piece of clay (or Play-Doh, if you desire) into a long rod. you want this portion to be several inches long and about half an inch in diameter.

    • 2). Make the top of the brush. Take the area which you see being the "head" of the toothbrush and pinch it into the shape of a diamond, first by pinching the very top of it into the shape of a V, and then by pinching the bottom into a V that is going in the other direction.

    • 3). Size the handle. With the clay that remains in a rod shape, decide how large you want to make the handle, keeping in mind that a longer handle will be easier to break.

    • 4). Add the plastic for the bristles. Take the pieces of plastic and press them into the clay. Space the plastic pieces evenly so that you will have your bristles also be fairly even. Stiffer plastic is better for this, as it will better mimic the bristles of a toothbrush.

    • 5). Cut your bristles. Your bristles can be of any size that you want, though you should try to keep the lengths fairly even. Bristles that are too long will come out more easily, but short bristles may not clean as well. Also, if you have pieces that are falling over, either prop them up with other bristles or cut them shorter.

    • 6). Allow the clay to dry for at least 24 hours.
