Road to London 2012! Chicago 1959 Did you know - At the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago, America, the Bahamian team picked up a total of two gold medals and finished eighth in the medal count.
Derrick Atkins Did you know- Sprinter Derrick Atkins obtained a silver medal for placing second in the men's 100, behind Tyson Gay (America), in the IAAF World Championships in Japan in 2007.

Knowles (sailing), participated in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Kingston (Jamaica).
Later on, by 1964, Mr Knowles made Caribbean history when he captured an Olympic gold medal in the Games of the XVIII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan.
Edinburgh 1986 Did you know- In the mid-1980s, the Bahamian Olympic team lost the opportunity to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh (Scotland).
Why? The Bahamian government boycotted the British Games.
About thirty-five athletes were affected by the boycott, among them were Bradley Cooper (shot put), Shonel Ferguson (long jump), Pauline Davis (100m, 200m and 4x 100m relay), and Norbert Elliott (triple jump), as well as Frank Rutherford (triple jump), Troy Kemp (high jump), Laverne Eve (javelin throw), and Lori Roberts (diving).
Roger Smith & Mark Knowles Did you know- Under the leadership of Roger Smith & Mark Knowles, the men's tennis team of The Bahamas became one of Latin America's best teams between 1992 and 1996.
During the Davis Cup American Zone Semi-finals, The Bahamas (pop.
280,000) beat Peru (pop.
25 million) three times.
Meanwhile, Smith and Knowles were one of the world's top five doubles teams.
By the 1980s, Smith beat Ivan Ledl, considered by many to be one of the greatest players of all time.

By the mid-1960s, the men's softball team of The Bahamas was one of the 11 national teams to participate in the First World Championship in the United Mexican States.
On that occasion, the country came in sixth place, after America, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.

Although Kempt's performance in the Games of the 26th Olympiad in the States in July 1996 failed to measure up to predictions: He finished 13th.
Later on, by 2007, Donald Thomas, Kempt's successor, earned a gold medal, with a mark of 2.
