No matter if you've started a new business for the first time or if you've just moved your present business to home it can sometimes be very hard to get focused and overcome all the distractions you have at home and to some it's not that easy to be productive.
I'd love to share with you some tips from my own experience and hopefully get you motivated to get going.
1 Set Up a Dedicated Home Office The very first thing you should do is to find a good place to set up your office.
It should be quiet on somewhat private with the tools you may need to run your business.
I'm not going in to any more details about that here but it still should be your first step.
2 Everyday Routines When you get up every morning to go to your everyday job you probably used to take your morning shower and most often take your time to eat your breakfast and in some cases read the paper.
Do not change these routines.
To get up every morning and go straight to your office turning on the computer, does not only affect your productivity and the amount of quality work you'll get done through the day but also your motivation.
You need to see result and have fun to keep you motivated and to skip on things like that will get you neither.
3 Background Music This may not apply for everyone but it certainly works for me.
To have some kind of music playing in the background that makes you feel happy will make your day more fun which increases your motivation.
In addition to that it can for some people even help you focus.
This of course is all individual and is not applicable for everyone.
But experiment a little with what may help you.
Try to start listening to music with no lyrics or perhaps lyrics that you don't understand as it won't take any of your focus away.
4 Organize and Plan Your Days To be as efficient as you possibly can be you should try to plan as much of the day ahead as you can.
Go out shopping and prepare your lunch the day before for example.
It is then one less thing that can occupy your mind.
If possible you may even set your working hours and then try to keep them as good as you can.
This way it's easier to resist most excuses like I'm going to start as soon as this tv show ends only to find that there's another one you want to see starting.
5 Keep Track of Time Put up a clock where it can easily be seen when you're in your office chair working.
It can help you keep some track of how much time certain tasks take and so on which will undoubtedly help you plan your working days more accurately in the future.
It's also very important to know when to pack up for the day.
Once you sit down and get started and all your creativity starts flowing it's really easy to forget time and suddenly realize that you've been working for 15 hours straight.
There are of course tons of things you can do to help you be more efficient when working.
If you find yourself stuck somewhere you can always do some more research.
There are always others out there with the same problem.
However number 4 and 5 here probably goes for most of you out there.
Just remember to be strict when making your own schedule.
Sometimes it's tempting to work those long days and it may be that you get a lot of done that day, but it will also affect your work the day after and the day after that etc making the rest of the week useless.
It's not the quantity of work you do as much as the quality that matters.
A few intensive productive hours is worth so much more than a week of useless efforts that will get you nowhere.
