    Salesperson's License Education Requirements

    • Texas requires 210 classroom hours of education for an applicant to be eligible to sit for the examination. 60 of those hours must be in a core "Principles of Real Estate" course, with 60 more hours divided between two courses covering the agency law and contract law. 30 more hours need to be spent in a core real estate, and the remaining 60 can be divided between either core courses or related subjects.

    Broker's License Education Requirements

    • In addition to a two-year experience requirement, prospective brokers need to complete 900 classroom hours of training. While 630 of those hours can be in courses that are related to real estate, the remaining 270 hours must all be in core courses. Furthermore, 30 of those hours have to be spent in a specific "Real Estate Brokerage" course.

    Inspector's License Education Requirements

    • The process of becoming an inspector in Texas typically has three steps. No formal classroom education is required for the apprentice's license, but it is for the other two. An inspector's license requires at least 90 classroom hours of instruction in what the state considers "core" real estate inspection topics. Professional inspectors, who represent the highest level of the license in Texas, need a total of at least 128 hours of classroom education, with eight of them spent in a "Standards of Practice" course.

    Continuing Education

    • Texas also requires its real estate licensees to receive ongoing education throughout the period that they hold their license. Inspectors need 16 hours per year of approved continuing education. Real estate salespeople and brokers have to take 15 hours of mandatory continuing education every two years, three of which must be a legal update and three of which must be in legal ethics.
