The boom years allowed for such spending! The credit cards could take the expense! The exciting thrill of buying! The wardrobe full to overflowing! The big TVs and latest gadgets! Have what you want! The credit cards can take the expense! No, surely that must be wrong? Where has all the money gone? Surely the balance can't be that high? Ooh, yes it can, and higher! By the time the interest is added! Ouch, what to do now? Time to admit it is out of control! The credit cards can't take the expense! There's no money left! Who can help when in debt? Debt is a serious matter it can cause so much stress and heartache for individuals and families.
Once in debt it becomes the one and only thing you can think about, how to get out of debt or how to make more money.
Don't be afraid to speak to someone you can trust about your debt, who is able to give advice on debt, not just friends or family.
There may be solutions to your debt problem you may not have thought of.
As tempting as it may be don't borrow from anyone or a company until you know all the facts of what they are offering.
You could find you lose everything if you don't keep the repayments up, and even if you do the interest charged can be so high you will be repaying it until you die! Don't leave contacting your credit card companies, banks etc until the last minute, try to work with them.
It is possible to obtain free debt advice through the internet or local advice centres.
Be open to ways of finding help it can come from unexpected sources.
Your other option would be to speak with a debt management company, one that doesn't charge just to talk things through with you.
Never pay any money up front for advice.
A good debt management company will obtain all the relevant information from you and work with you to achieve a successful outcome to manage your debt situation.
Don't consider bankruptcy or an Individual Voluntary Arrangement without first seeking advice.
Remember:
  • Don't ignore the problem, it won't go away, in fact it will probably get worse
  • Seek help
  • Don't pay for advice
  • Know all your options before agreeing to anything
  • Don't lay blame, it has happened, work your way through it, blame won't change anything.
Stop spending, buying only what you need and have money for, don't use your credit cards.
Consider debt management.
The boom years of spend, spend, spend are over!
