How to Declare Convictions for a Visa
- 1). Visit the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service website and research their menu of visas. Find the visa that suits your situation and print out the application and application instructions.
- 2). Fill the application out completely with black ink. Provide an answer of "N/A" for questions you cannot answer.
- 3). Gather the appropriate documents to obtain your visa. These may include birth certificate, marriage license or proof of employment upon your arrival in the United States.
- 4). Declare your crime in the appropriate section. Use the free form space to describe the crime. Gather and include any documents that may shed light on your rehabilitation including time spent in therapy, public service or letters of recommendation from respected members of your community.
- 5). Travel to your nearest police station to get a criminal record, otherwise known as a police clearance. Pay the applicable fee.
- 6). Mail the visa petition to the appropriate U.S. facility. Include a payment for any fees in the form of a money order payable to the Department of Homeland Security.
- 7). Await a judgment from the United State government.
