How to Choose Cucumbers
- 1). Select cucumbers that have been stored in a cool place. Choose cucumbers in a refrigerated display, or in a shaded area if buying cucumbers from a vegetable market.
- 2). Select cucumbers that are slender and dark green in appearance. Avoid cucumbers that appear shriveled and withered or those with yellowing skin.
- 3). Select cucumbers that are free of blemishes. Avoid cucumbers that have bruises or dark spots, as these are signs of decay.
- 4). Choose cucumbers that are firm to the touch. Squeeze the ends of the cucumbers to make sure they are firm, since these are the first areas to deteriorate. Avoid cucumbers that bulge in the middle or have watery flesh.
