Nursing Grant Money

• America is projected to experience a critical nursing shortage by 2025 according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. To prevent that problem, several organizations, the federal government included, created numerous funding programs. Some of these grants specifically target Latinas. The National Association of Hispanic Nurses, for instance, was created to increase the number of Latin American nursing professionals.
  
  

College Grant Money

• The cost of college has risen exponentially over the years. In 2010, college tuition rose faster than the national gross domestic product, according to the College Board. This reality forces many Latinas who come from less privileged families to work instead of attend college. Fortunately, grant money in the form of scholarships were created to help these women pay for their college degrees. One such program is offered by the Hispanic American Women's Association. Latinas can also qualify for the Goldman Sachs Scholarship, program, which is offered by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The program is specifically for women and provides $20,000 in funding for two years. Similarly, the Latina Leadership Network gives $500 to Latinas enrolled at one of many community colleges in California.
  
  

Medical School Grants

• The American Medical Association determined that medical students graduate with an average debt of $157,944. This is an encumbrance that discourages some from attending medical school and burdens those that manage to graduate. Organizations such as the AMA provides financial aid to Latinas and other minorities enrolled in an accredited medical school through the Minority Scholars Award. Another option is the Minority Access To Research Careers, which gives grant money to minority students, including Latinas, in medical school and other health professional schools.
  
  

Graduate School Grants

• Latinas are underrepresented at graduate schools across the country. Fortunately, those who choose to pursue a graduate degree can take advantage of grant programs such as that offered by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Recipients get $5,000 to pay for their education. Graduate Latina students can also take advantage of money from the Chicana/Latina Foundation.
