How to Troubleshoot a Sears Elite Ice Maker

    • 1). Check the water line to make sure it is connected to the back of the refrigerator. If it is connected, check to make sure that the water line is tight around the inlet at the back of the appliance. Water on the floor near the inlet is a sign that the water line is not connected tightly enough. Check for pinches or kinks in the water line that may affect how well the water is able to flow.

    • 2). Wait at least 24 hours after initially connecting the water line to the freezer before attempting to remove ice from the ice maker. The Kenmore Elite requires several hours to reach a temperature cool enough to produce ice. Once it reaches its normal cooling capability, the Kenmore Elite ice maker is able to produce about 100 cubes every 24 hours.

    • 3). Press on the freezer door to ensure that it is fully closed. When the freezer door is not closed properly, room-temperature air enters the freezer and prevents the freezer from maintaining a temperature cool enough to produce ice. The ice maker also is not able to dispense ice when the door is open.

    • 4). Adjust the freezer temperature settings. Kenmore recommends that the temperate in the freezer be set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal ice production. Warmer temperatures may cause ice to form more slowly.

    • 5). Open the freezer door and examine the chute through which ice is dispensed. If ice sits in the chute for long periods of time, it may begin to clump and clog the chute. This means that the ice maker may work, but the chute does not allow ice to pass through it. Use a plastic utensil to break up the ice in the chute.

    • 6). Locate the "On/Off" switch on the ice maker and check that it is set to "On." Reach inside the ice maker and press the lever arm down if it is in the up position. The ice maker does not produce ice when the lever is up.
