How to Meditate in Your Car
- 1). Schedule your car meditation session when you are less likely to be disturbed by friends, colleagues and family. Blocking yourself out for a long lunch during the work week can help accomplish this.
- 2). Drive to a quiet spot away from major roads and businesses where you will not be disturbed by background noise. Choosing a spot that is close to a park or other natural area can help enhance the experience.
- 3). Park your car and make sure all windows and doors are locked. If you are able to turn off your cell phone or Blackberry, now is the time.
- 1). Insert a new age or instrumental CD into your car's CD player. Adjust the volume to a comfortable level.
- 2). Place your eye mask (if you choose to use one) over your head. Adjust it so minimal light shines through. If you are not using a mask, simply close your eyes.
- 3). Breathe in deeply for a moment, allowing the air to flow in and out of your lungs without effort. While doing this, imagine all tension is draining from your body.
- 4). Imagine you are at your favorite place. This could be a beach, meadow or on top of a mountain. Continue to breathe deeply while you look around the spot you've chosen in your mind. Notice the colors of plants and flowers and any other physical stimuli that would occur if you were there physically, not just in spirit.
- 5). Relax your body and mind, breathing easily while enjoying the landscape you've chosen to visit.
- 6). Open your eyes slowly, or take off your eye mask when you feel ready to reconnect with reality. You may want to set your meditation time to just one or two songs on the CD.
Let your eyes adjust gradually to the light outside and take a moment to center yourself. This can be done by opening a window or taking a quick walk around the car.
