New India Assurance-Universal Health Insurance Scheme
New India Assurance offers Universal Health Insurance Scheme which comes with personal accident and disability cover. This policy is specially designed for providing health cover to poor families, so premiums are very lower. For an individual the premium amount is Rs.300/- per annum and for a family up to 5 members (including the first 3 children) Rs.450/- per annum, family up to 7 members (including the first 3 children and dependent parents) Rs.600/- per annum. For families below the poverty line, the government will provide a premium subsidy of Rs.100/- per family.
The policy covers people between the age of 3 months to 70 years. The benefit of family will operate on floater basis. The total reimbursement of Rs.30,000/- can be availed of individually or collectively by members of the family. Cashless hospitalization is also possible through listed hospitals.
The policy provides reimbursement of hospitalization expenses up to Rs.30,000/- to an individual and family, subject to the sub-limits. For room rent and boarding expenses up to Rs.150/- per day, ICU up to Rs.300/- per day, surgeon/anesthetists/specialists/consultant fees and nursing expenses up to Rs.4000/- per illness/injury and anesthesia, blood, oxygen, operation theatre charges, cost of medicines, diagnostic materials, x-ray, dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, pacemaker, artificial limbs, etc. up to Rs.4,500/- per illness/injury. The limit is for total expenses incurred for any one illness up to Rs.15,000/-.
Under personal accident cover, a sum of Rs.25,000/- can be reimbursed upon th death of the earning head of the family due to an accident. If the earning head is hospitalized due to an accident or illness, the compensation of Rs.50 per day will be paid for every day of hospitalization up to 15 days after a waiting period of 3 days.
