How to Haul Toxic Garbage
- 1). Contact your state or county health department for a list of disposal locations near you that can handle toxic waste. Contact auto parts stores or junk yards in regard to disposing of automotive waste such as motor oil. Tell the place that you have contacted what waste you have and inquire as to how you should properly transport it to them.
- 2). Prepare all toxic materials before hauling them. Bag what you can in plastic bags or plastic containers that can contain them safely. For items that could be too corrosive for plastic bags, put them in metal containers such as large metal drums with sealed lids.
- 3). Tie any containers securely to the vehicle as you transport them to the disposal location. Contact your local police or highway patrol office for further information about hauling of items deemed to be toxic.
- 4). Wash or destroy any containers that you haul toxic items in. Do not reuse containers that you used for other items that can react to other toxic materials.
