The visit of Miss Mamata Banerjee to Singapore can be described as a fruitful one. During her visit, MoUs were signed in several target sectors such as; home furnishing, IT, food processing and entertainment and training. One of the other encouraging aspects was that Scomi Engineering announced its intention of making a footprint in the €City of Joy€.

The company CEO-K Veluppillai made it clear that the government is €ok' with its thought of participating in the global tender. He further stated that they were willing to do whatever the government wants them to do. In yet another encouraging development, InfraCo Asia, Singapore and Keventer Agro Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Food Park located at Dankuni. The investment for the same is approximately Rs, 1,000 crore. However, the FDI component is about Rs. 300 crore.

Ghanshyam Sarda Kolkata Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the two leading IT firms, namely; Axsys Technologies Ltd. and Compass Energy Pte Ltd. This was done so as to collaborate on solutions in the field of gas/oil exploration and ship building. As a result of the collaboration, employment opportunities for 200 persons are most likely to be generated. Also, in the coming two years, an additional number of 500-600 persons are also expected to benefit from ample job scopes.

The leading industrialist-Ghanshyam Sarda also condemned the recent murder of the CEO of the Northbrook Jute Mill. As per him, dwindling orders, lack of effective control and relentless interference were a few of the reasons responsible behind such an incident. According to this leading jute mill owner, such an incident is sure to hold serious implication on the future of the industries in Bengal. The Sarda Group of Industries owns eight jute mills that produce 500 tons of jute products on a daily basis. The recently set up jute mill at Alwar, boasts of an investment of RS 100 crore.
