Modi Sarkar: Short Term Success, Long Term Challenges

€Ab ki Baar Modi Sarkar€ or rather say €Har Baar Modi Sarkar!€ flabbergasted electorates in the recent concluded Assembly elections in the states of Maharashtra and Haryana. Victory of BJP in these two states was certainly the upshot of the momentum that NaMo infused among the Indian electorates early this year. Underpinning for many promises that NaMo made to the Indians are already on the positive side of their implementation.

Some of the priorities in this winter session will be implementation of changes in the land acquisition law, elimination of certain sections from the subsidy net and introduction of Goods and Services Tax. Many states are already complaining as the new land acquisition bill will remove the current provision of requiring the consent of minimum of 70 percent of the locals for PPP projects.

Jan Dhan Yojna to include every Indian in the economy, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to improve the morals of Indians and to bring greater cross national tourist inflow, diplomatic handling of economic affairs with USA and China is bound to bring the desired results for this NDA government. The light of hope which will bring the good days in India to 125 crore Indians are seen bright and clear.

It is too early to evaluate the effectiveness of all these measures as taken by the present Government under the leadership of Narendra Modi. But the intent is loud and moral is high among a overwhelming majority of Indians and each one of us is expecting conditions in India as never before and free from many of its miseries and problems. The bigger picture of economic growth and prosperity is bound to be evident once these smaller pieces fit together.

€Achhe din ane wale hain!€ - The slogan coined by NaMo raised the hopes and expectations of hundreds of million Indians. Common citizens started visualizing a prosperous future for India. How soon can the Modi lead government can turnaround the Indian economy and stimulate economic growth is now on the top of the mind of every one of them? Government policies to fuel the economy to generate more employment, country to have better roads and energy, people to have access to better education and health, improved social security for citizens are some of the anxieties that we want to be dissonance free.

However certain doubts do prevail as to the proposed game plan and policies of the government on fronts like overhauling of state-run enterprises, streamlining the tax code and recapitalizing banks without losing the investors goodwill.

Many critique of the Modi government have found the economy, corruption levels, basic facilities available to an average Indian on the same level as the previous UPA government with no or insignificant improvements so far. It is too early now to evaluate Modi government on these fronts as most of the involved ministries are working day and night and 24 x 7 to bring changes and improvements. However, food prices including those of vegetables have definitely scaled down due to their delisting from APMC Act thus preventing exploitation of farmers from hoarders and middlemen. The foreign policy of India is no longer lusterless, all credits to Modi's gift of the gab.

With policies and programs like Make in India, reviving the lost confidence of international investors, development of smart cities, high speed rail, new industrial corridor, job and employment generation in large numbers is on the cards. PPP models and infrastructural investment trusts for helping the infrastructure building is also commendable.

Expect NaMo to walk the talk for 125 crore Indians. We have an eloquent PM now.
