War on Christmas: Sarah Palin"s View
Just like Black Friday sales, the annual renewal of the War on Christmas - and on Christians - seems to start earlier and earlier every year. Indeed, the War on Christians waged by by the same atheists, malcontents, and run of the mill Democrats who detest the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ never lets up although it tends to intensify during the Christmas season.
Last Sunday, Sarah Palin appeared on on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 to discuss her new book, Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas, which she described as a "call to action" to all who want to preserve American exceptionalism, regardless of their religion. She also referred to the War on Christmas as the "tip of the spear" of the greater battle threatening not only to undermine faith in America but to radically change the nature of our country.
With all due respect to Governor Palin - respect she fully deserves yet was denied last week by MSNBC's disgusting Martin Bashir - I wish all success to her and Good Tidings and Great Joy and mostly concur with her views but disagree as to whether the endless War on Christmas is the "tip of the spear" and not more like a titanic iceberg.
As Mrs. Palin told Breitbart's Stephen K. Bannon, she had been thinking about the whole issue of opposition to Christmas ever since she served as mayor and city manager in Wasilla, Alaska when she was threatened with legal action if she permitted exhibition of Nativity scenes on Wasilla's public property. She wondered, "Why are they so intolerant? Why are they so thin-skinned that they would take offense to such an innocent and traditional display?"
Palin believes that in a free America "we have the constitutionally protected freedom to express our faith" and she therefore wanted Good Tidings and Great Joy "to be a 'call to action' because the 'war on Christmas' is the 'tip of the spear' of a larger battle that is brewing that threatens to not only undermine faith in America but fundamentally transform the country." Putting aside the venomous opinions of twisted liberal-leftists like Martin Bashir and company, Sarah Palin is both an outstanding example of a great, conservative American and human being. Her only flaw may be her boundless optimism and absolute confidence in our country intermixed with a certain naiveté that fails to recognize why the lib-left is so intolerant and so thin-skinned when it comes to Christian observances and traditions.
Christmas is not only one of the most celebrated days on the Christian calendar but the sole religious event recognized as a federal holiday, designated as such by Congress and President Ulysses S. Grant in 1870 for government employees in Washington D.C. and extended to all federal employees in 1968.
Granted, Christmas, like Easter, has been studiously stripped over the past decades of any religious significance by the identical slew of malcontented agents who have successfully converted the one to an occasion for orgiastic shopping sprees and Santa Claus distributing goodies, the other to a Spring festival of rabbits, hunts for colored eggs, and kids scarfing down chocolate bunnies.
However, the attacks on Christmas represent much more than simply secularizing a religious holiday. They also represent a general secularization of America which President Barack Hussein Obama emphasized when, four years in a row, he deleted mention of God from his Thanksgiving Day address and when he chose to read a version of "The Gettysburg Address" that omitted the words, "under God".
The other attacks on God and Christmas have ranged from protesting and vandalizing both public and private Nativity displays, to stores pressured into advertising generic holiday sales, to school prohibitions on Christmas concerts and handing out religious Christmas cards, to deleting the word "Christmas" from school calendars, to disciplining kids for wearing red and green scarves, and to banning Christmas carols and substituting songs about Frosty and Rudolph.
Christmas is a time for celebration. It is not a time for intolerant, Scrooge-spirited campaigns against that celebration or the cause for that celebration. Whether the War on Christmas symbolizes a "tip of the spear" of a brewing battle in our country as Sarah Palin believes or is an ominous iceberg endangering the very survival of our ship of state is of less importance than recognizing that undeniable war for what it is: a threat to America and to all we believe.
