"Slumdog Millionaire" knocks Golden Globe Bonanza
The movie which has been on the talk ever since its release with the lowest of the possible budgets bagged four honors at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. We are talking about the movie none other than "Slumdog Millionaire". The movie also won the best drama award to certainly lead its way towards the Oscars.
"Slumdog Millionaire" is the story of a young Indian orphan from the slums of Mumbai who is about to experience the biggest day of his life that would turn it, from rags to the riches. The story of a man who is in the search for love and struggling for money on a television game show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" has won hearts of many earning it awards for best directory, screenwriter and composer during the ceremony.
The Best Director award went to Danny Boyle for this movie. Others to bag awards for the movie were Simon Beaufoy for the screenwriter and A R Rahman as composer under the best musical score genre.
Danny Boyle was highly grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press that hands out the Golden Globe Awards for supporting this movie which captures the highly haphazard pace of the life in Mumbai. Boyle was found saying "Your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated, really deeply appreciated".
"The film was made from the heart, really. We never expected to be here" he said when referring to the popularity of the movie.
Others to bag awards in the Golden Globe Awards ceremony were the movie makers of Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Their movie was named the best film musical or comedy, but unfortunately Allen was not there to accept the award.
Another big surprise for the evening came in the form of Kate Winslet who grabbed two Golden Globe awards, making her only third for a single performer to win two acting awards. British actress won the award for the best supporting actress in a German movie "The Reader" where she plays a woman with a hidden past and the other trophy claimed by her was as best actress for the movie "Revolutionary Road" where she plays the role of a frustrated housewife. Her reaction was shocked and breathless Winslet added about her victory with a witty remark saying, "I have a habit of not winning things".
The best supporting actor award was awarded to Heath Ledger for his outstanding performance as joker in the movie The Dark Knight. All the elite present there at the ceremony cheered and rose to their feet when film's director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on the behalf of the actor who died a year ago.
Mickey Rourke, who acted for the movie "The Wrestle" won best actor award. Comeback Kid Rourke was found saying "It's been a very long road back for me" for his victory.
The Golden Globe Awards are awarded by 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They are closely watched for clues for the films which are viable for the Oscars. Oscars are the world's top movie awards given in February by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
