Going to Fall Asleep at a Stoplight? Have a Criminal Attorney on Speedial
If you couldn't tell from the title of this article, I am a Seattle criminal attorney. I help people stay out of jail for a living and beat their criminal charges if possible. Some people make it easy for me to help them. They know their rights and exercise them appropriately. Some are even innocent. But some people make it difficult. And a Florida Gator football player has presented an example of that.
Now, before I go any farther, I want to make it clear that I don't represent Carlos Dunlap. I am not his criminal attorney. The point I was making above is that his actions are exactly those which make it very hard for me to do my job sometimes.
If you hadn't heard, Carlos Dunlap, star defensive end (and potential top 5 draft pick in next years NFL draft) was out partying on Tuesday night, the week of the SEC championship game, and had a little to much to drink (allegedly). Or he was practicing and studying really hard. In any event, he had somewhere to be at 3:00 in the morning and decided to go. Except he didn't make it. In a story out of the Jacksonville Newspaper, which you can read here, it appears that Dunlap fell asleep at a stop light and was only awakened when police began tapping on his window.
Now, I am all for people having a good time. I mean this guy was probably about to win an SEC championship and maybe a national championship, some pre-partying was definitely okay. But if you are going to do it and then drive home so drunk (or tired) that you fall asleep at a stop light, you better have a Seattle criminal attorney on your speed dial, because you are going to need one.
Lesson learned here - don't drive drunk. And if you are a soon to be top 5 NFL draft pick making millions of dollars, take the initiative to have someone that can drive you home. This guy could probably pay someone 5 bucks to drive him around for the night for all the fun he'd have (or sign something and give it to him). Guess Carlos Dunlap had to learn the hard way.
