How to Install the Belt on a Clothes Dryer

    • 1). Unplug the electrical cord of the dryer from the electrical outlet before installing the belt and take the lint filter out of the lint-filter sleeve.

    • 2). Locate the screws underneath the lint filter cover and unfasten them with a screwdriver, placing the screws in a safe place.

    • 3). Place a putty knife under the front of the dryer between the top lid and the cabinet on both sides, lifting up on the knife to dislodge the top from the plastic clips that are holding it in place.

    • 4). Flip the top lid back so that it is resting on the rear hinges and place the putty knife along the side of the front panel near the bottom, pulling out on the knife to dislodge the front panel from the plastic clips.

    • 5). Lift up on the front panel to unfasten it from the clips on the top of the panel and tilt it away from the cabinet, removing the door-switch connector from the back of the panel and pulling it off the metal prongs by hand.

    • 6). Place woodblocks under the front edge of the dryer drum to hold it in place and locate the idler arm and motor on the bottom of the cabinet.

    • 7). Remove any broken belt parts from the cabinet and move the idler arm forward to allow room to install the new dryer belt.

    • 8). Place the new belt around the idler arm and motor pulleys as well as around the drum, lifting up on the drum to slide the belt around it and verify that the belt is lined up properly and not twisted.

    • 9). Move the idler arm back into position to put tension on the new belt and remove the woodblocks from underneath the drum, placing the front panel back into position.

      Attach the door-switch connector to the metal prongs in the back of the front panel by hand and lift the panel up so it hooks onto the metal clips at the top of the cabinet, pressing in on the bottom of the panel to snap it into place on the plastic clips.

      Lower the top lid back down over the dryer cabinet and press down to fasten it against the plastic clips.

      Attach the screws underneath the lint-filter cover with a screwdriver and slide the lint filter back into the lint-filter sleeve.

      Plug the electrical cord of the dryer into the electrical outlet.
