Tips on Daily Budget Planning

    • Budget planning is key to personal money management. Most people plan on a monthly or weekly basis, but setting a daily budget can help to keep you on track with a larger budgeting process. Daily budget planning involves assessing short and long term goals and initiating a process to reach those financial goals.

    Write Down Everything

    • Before you even begin budgeting, write down everything you spend over the course of a few days, weeks or even a month. This will give you a clear picture of how much money you spend and what you spend it on. Be as detailed as possible and similar to a nutrition journal, don't cheat. Don't leave off even the smallest expenditure so you can see what you spend money on each and every day. This include both essential monthly bills as well as all extras.

Cut Expenses One At A Time

    • Particularly when it comes to daily budget planning, it is almost impossible to change all of your habits at one time. Choose one thing to change in your daily routine and follow through on it for several days before making another change. For instance, instead of purchasing an expensive latte each morning, brew your own coffee to be more cost efficient. This adds money back to your bottom line. Don't spend this money elsewhere; put it aside. Do this for a week or two and then cut another expense.

    Don't Be Too Strict

    • If you are too strict in your daily budget planning, you are more likely to fail. Allow yourself some wiggle room for fun expenditures, so that you don't feel deprived in your daily budget. This could be something as simple as an ice cream cone, or if your budget allows, something more complex like a lunch out. Just be sure that you aren't taking money from somewhere else for this purpose; if it cannot be fit comfortably into the budget, then you may have to cut expenses elsewhere or work extra for the small splurge.
