Disney/Pixar Grants for Art Students
- Junior Achievement (JA) is a global youth education program which is focused on teaching students about the basics of workforce preparedness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship through hands-on experience. In order to offer their programs, JA partners with a variety of corporate sponsors who help fund a student's education inside and outside of the program. The Walt Disney Company Foundation Scholarship, the award's full name, grants $5,000 to a Junior Achievement student studying the fine arts. As of 2008, this Disney scholarship was awarded to 29 different Junior Achievement students.
- Launched in 1994, the Enabling Grants program is an educational scholarship fund specific to Disneyland Resort which is awarded to school districts in and around Anaheim, California. Program funding is awarded to projects which encourage student involvement in the visual and performing arts; since it began, the Enabling Grants program has awarded more than $2 million to K-12 schools.
Funding from Enabling Grants is based on the impact of the project. If the arts project is centered on one classroom, $250 is awarded; if several classes benefit from the program, $500 is awarded; and if the entire school is involved, $1,000 is awarded. - The Disney Theme Parks and Resorts College Program is open to students of all disciplines and funds a one-semester internship for a student at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort. Although much of the program focuses on business acumen, lessons on customer service in performing arts venues and close proximity to world-class entertainment is extraordinarily beneficial to arts students. Accreditation through the American Council on Education allows a student to apply for college credit while taking part in the Disney College Program.
- Pixar does not release funding for grants and scholarships directly from the corporation, but the corporate matching plan has been taken advantage of by employees who are alumni of collegiate arts programs to create scholarship opportunities for current and future students. One example of this is the Pixar Aggie Scholarship, awarded each year to two graduate students working at the Texas A&M Visualization Laboratory. Funding for this scholarship was made possible through Texas A&M alumni working at Pixar who raised funds and was awarded a corporate matching grant through Pixar.
