How to Make a Rope Climbable
- 1). Purchase four strands of nylon rope that are 7/16-inch in thickness. These four strands will be braided together to create the climbing rope, which will have a diameter of 1-3/4 inches.
- 2). Tie the four strands of rope together at one end and wrap the knot around a secure structure, such as a door knob. You can also have an assistant hold this end of the rope while you work on the braiding. Separate the strands into four straight lines.
- 3). Use an "over-under" pattern to braid the strands of rope together. Starting with the strand on the far left, weave it over the top of the closest two strands of rope. Next, take the strand on the far right and loop it over the two strands closest to the right. Continue going back and forth, weaving in the outermost strand over the top of the two closest strands on the same side.
- 4). Pull the rope tight, while weaving, to ensure that the four sections stay together. Your assistant should pull on his end of the rope to keep it taut as well. You can also duct-tape the rope, after every foot of braiding, to keep everything in place.
- 5). Tie the four strands together at the end of the climbing rope to complete the braiding. The four sections should now be combined into one thick rope. Test out the rope by pulling on it to ensure that it stays together. Attach it to a climbing structure, such as a pull-up bar, to make sure that it stays in place and will support your weight during use.
