Indoor Flea Control

Once fleas have entered into the home, they can be very difficult to be eliminated.
The reason is that the flea will lay many eggs that can lay dormant for a very long period of time and somehow initiate development when a suitable host appears, such as yourself or your pets.
That is why it is best to understand that the problem consists of three parts.
The first part involves the fleas that are currently living inside the home.
They can be eliminated by a variety of means to include those spray systems that require you to leave the home for a period of several hours and then to return only after the home has been thoroughly ventilated.
The concern with this approach is that the spray is toxic not only to the fleas and having the residue cover the inside of your home is likely to create an unhealthy environment for you, your family and your pets.
And another important issue is that it won't have any affect on the eggs that remain dormant and are hidden inside carpets and other areas inside the home.
The same problems exist with the use of other toxic chemicals that are employed by the home owner or even a pest control company.
Imagine the disappoint one must feel when they have paid a significant fee to have their home removed of fleas and find a short time later they have returned because the eggs were still viable.
The second factor is the outdoor situation in your yard.
If fleas can live safely in this area, they can easily hop a ride into the home again on your clothing or on your pets and the problem will be repeated.
For this reason, any plan to eliminate fleas in the home should also involve the yard to ensure that once they are removed, they won't be coming back.
There are many options for control of fleas in the yard and most of them will be effective if performed according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
But putting toxic substances into the yard will once again have an impact on the people and pets in which they come in contact.
The third concern is the pets and humans moving between and in these locations.
Pets in particular can continue to carry adult fleas that can hop off their host and take up residence again in the home.
This is a major problem not only because pets should be treated at the same time as both the indoor and outdoor area are treated.
Otherwise, they will transport fleas into the home once again.
There are actually very few effective and safe methods to remove fleas from the home, pets, and outdoors.
However, one of those ways is with the use of cedar oil.
A modified version of cedar oil is available that will mix with water.
Look for a concentrate that is sold in 12 or 16 oz bottles.
This can then be sprayed using a pump sprayer inside the home.
It normally only takes about 3 ounces of the cedar oil mixed into a gallon of water to provide a solution that will not only kill the fleas, but eliminate their eggs inside the home and it is the getting of the eggs that is just as important.
The solution must be sprayed not only on the floor level, but up to about 18 inches to ensure jumping fleas have no place to hide.
And furniture cushions and beds will have to be sprayed as well if pets sometimes stay in these locations.
Pet shampoos are available that contain cedar oil that can be effective for solving the flea problem on them.
It may very well be possible to add a small amount of the cedar oil used to spray the home into the pet shampoo and save some money.
While the cedar concentrate can normally be used outside as well, cost and effectiveness can be a consideration here.
One should always be concerned with the use of toxic chemicals in the yard as studies have shown that when pets come in contact with these areas, they will likely ingest some of the chemicals during their normal grooming process.
Cedar oil can provide homeowners with a safe and effective means to eliminate indoor flea infestations that otherwise can be very difficult to solve.
Be sure you are purchasing a water soluble form of the cedar oil that is designed for this purpose and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
This method can be very cheap while still being very effective and safe.
