    Belt Driven Machine

    • 1). Turn your machine onto its spin cycle. The motor is operating and the belt is fine if the spin cycle works. Inspect the lid switch of the machine, located under the lid, for broken plastic pieces. A broken switch causes the machine to stop during certain cycles. Press the switch down and release; you should hear a click. Replace the switch if it does not click every time you press it down. Order a new part from the manufacturer of your machine and replace it according to the instructions that come with the replacement part.

    • 2). Unplug the machine if the spin cycle does not work.

    • 3). Pull the machine out from the wall and remove the back access cover by removing the screws that hold it in place.

    • 4). Reach into the machine and feel for the belt near the motor. Pull on the belt. If it comes loose it is broken. Pull the belt out of the machine by removing the clamps that hold it in place on the pump coupling.

    • 5). Place the new belt over the transmission pulley then the other end over the motor pulley. Test the machine.

    Direct Drive

    • 1). Remove the back access panel of the machine. If it does not have a belt, it has a direct drive.

    • 2). Inspect the motor coupler that is mounted to the shaft of the motor and the transmission. Inspect it for worn areas.

    • 3). Remove the bolt from the inside of the washing machine tub as well as the three bolts at the bottom of the washing machine tub to remove the motor from the machine.

    • 4). Remove the screws that hold the coupler onto the motor.

    • 5). Replace the motor coupler with replacement parts form the manufacturer. Assembly instructions come with the part. Reassemble the machine and test it.
