Whether you live in the country or the city, you may at times be burdened by unwanted guests.
Wildlife can make uninvited visits to our homes, usually while we are sleeping.
But before calling the animal control, or spraying chemicals that can harm them and the environment, try some of these techniques and tips first.
Here are some tips to get rid of this unwanted wildlife, without harming any of them.
Getting rid of raccoons Raccoons can be a big nuisance and make a big mess.
No one wants to clean up overturned garbage first thing in the morning.
To keep raccoons out of your garbage, use heavy duty cans that have a locking top.
Set them where they can't be tipped over.
You can use a rubber bungee cord on a lid that won't lock.
Getting rid of skunks To get rid of a not so sweet smelling skunk, put pieces of ex lax where the skunk can find them.
They will it and not return.
This will not harm them in any way.
Strange as it may sound, skunks hate strong odors.
To keep skunks out of small buildings or sheds, hang a bar of strong disinfectant or deodorizer inside the building.
Getting rid of bats and birds To repel birds or pigeons, hang colorful strips of cloth or plastic in areas where they will blow in the wind.
You can also use colorful windsocks.
To get bats out of your attic, seal all the cracks except the one they use to enter the attic.
For a few days leave a light on all the time at the peak of the attic roof.
Then one night after dark when all the bats are out flying and feeding, seal the last crack up too.
Getting rid of mice Last but not least are our favorite unwanted guests, mice.
Punch two holes opposite each other near the top of a pail.
Run a wire the long way through an empty baking powder can, from which both ends have been removed.
Spread cooking grease on outside of can and cover with bread crumbs.
Hang the can so it spins over a pail.
Place a board at a gentle incline, leading up to the pail.
When mice go to eat the bread crumbs, they will fall into the pail.
You can them take the pail outside, and release them somewhere away from your home.
