Is There a Way to Save Traditional Marriage and Solve the Equality Issue? Conservatives Should Try
If conservatives want to save traditional marriage, a new strategy is in order. In fact, it's a strategy that could potentially bring both sides together by returning marriage to churches and offering up equality in the law. Up until 2012 it was okay to be against gay marriage. Barack Obama was against it in 2004 in his first US Senate race when he argued that "My religious faith dictates marriage is between a man and a woman, gay marriage is not a civil right." When he ran for President in 2008 he said he believed "marriage is the union between a man and a woman.
As a Christian it's also a sacred union." When Obama changed his mind on the issue in 2012, suddenly any person who did not immediately change with him would be attacked as "hateful."
