Wine is a mark of fine dining and shows its presence in almost all happy occasions in your life.
Engagement, wedding, anniversary - no matter what the occasion is, it won't be complete without a toast with the tastiest wine of the season.
And for this reason there are thousands of varieties of wine in the market today from different parts of the world and different years, some going as far back as centuries.
And as the popular belief goes, the older the better.
One of the most prestigious wines is the Cloudy Bay belonging to Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand.
The name come from the place the lies in the eastern most side of Marlborough's Wairau valley, named by none other than British explorer Captain Cook in 1770.
Cloudy Bay first got its well-deserved attention when David Hohnen, the co-founder of Cape Mentelle in Western Australia, first tasted a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in 1983.
He was astonished at the taste of this wine that had never seen the world outside of where it was born till then.
Hohnen took a risk of making his financial supporters to buy land in Marlborough.
In 1985 the wine made here was shipped to the UK where it was welcomed with applause by the wine enthusiasts.
That marked the birth of a new brand in wine - Cloudy Bay.
Cloudy Bay has succeeded in becoming the favourite of huge group of wine connoisseurs due to its special taste that is a mix of gooseberry, green pepper and elderflower, which are typical of the region where it is made.
While created mainly for the UK and Australia and a minor share of the total of more than 100,000 cases for the United States, it magically vanishes from the shelves of the UK as soon as it reaches here.
The buyers of Cloudy Bay are so many that most of the bottles are pre-ordered while they are manufactured each year.
Creating a name for New Zealand in the wine industry, Cloudy Bay is now manufactured in different flavours like mango, nectarine, lime, papaya, grape fruit, fennel, orange blossom, etc.
There was a time when Cloudy Bay was the most sought-after and highly ranked wines among the other wines of sauvignon blanc set, most cases sold even before they reach the markets.
Today, however, there are wines from the same set that are equally popular as Cloudy Bay.
However, it still has its loyal supporters who never fail to keep in track of each harvest each season and make their bookings not to miss the wine.
