Role of Women in Child Raising

In the years prior to the feminist movement, most mothers stayed at home to care for their children and family. They created the heart of the home, preparing meals, mending or sewing clothes, cleaning and helping children with homework assignments. Their input was evident in the way their children were cared for. - Many women have found ways to earn money while caring for their children at home.Jupiterimages/Comstock/Getty Images
Today, many women choose to stay home to care for their children for several reasons. Daycare is expensive, and when adding in the expenses of a work wardrobe and lunches out, many women find it to not be cost effective. Many moms have found ways to cut expenses and create an income by working from home, while others choose to stay in full time careers. - Grandparents can sometimes help with childcare for short periods of time.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Many women find it beneficial to share their job duties. Instead of one person filling the role of a full-time employee, they job share with another employee to create a job that can be flexible and adjust to the needs of each individual. Many times their partners, relatives or close friends can help with the kids when mom is away for shorter periods of time. - Moms who choose full-time employment may have to interview a few nannies to find a suitable one.Creatas/Creatas/Getty Images
A woman who chooses to stay employed in a full-time career has to make choices about her child's primary care giver. She will need to feel this person is trustworthy and able to follow through with her directives concerning the welfare of her child. A woman's view of her job makes a difference in how happy she is with the arrangement, as well. If she sees her job as a career, and it is fulfilling, she is likely to be balanced and happy, which has a positive effect on her children. If she sees it as a just paycheck, she may find it difficult to be away from them.
